Volgograd State Medical University is located at Volgograd which is situated in the southern part of Russia on the west bank of the Volga River.
This university was founded in 1935 as a Stalingrad Medical Institute which got a status of the Academy in 1993 and later in 2003 it was granted the status of the University.
VolSMU is accredited by the Russian Ministry for Education and health Ministry of Russian Federation for the teaching of both Russian and overseas students. It boasts of a highly qualified teaching staff, advanced researchers and experienced physicians who are recognized Globally.

The pre-clinical courses are conducted at the 4 main buildings of the university while the clinical courses are undertaken at 15 multi-profile clinics equipped with up-to-date facilities having Cancer Center, Heart Centre, First Aid Hospital, 3 Infectious Diseases hospitals, Dental Hospital, 5 Obs and Gynaec Hospital, Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Centre, Tuberculosis Centre, 3 Orthopedic Centers and all admitting a total of 5000 Patients. All the hospitals are equipped with the most up-to-date diagnostic and treatment conveniences.
VolSMU has ambitiously started number of Research and Methodological schools and centers such as Research Institute of Pharmacology and Research Institute of Clinical and Rheumatology. The Heart Center is one of the best in the field of Cardiology in Russian Federation. University's main building houses a well stocked library of over 700000 books in English, Russian, French, German, Arabic, and Latin language.
International Students also get a lot of information from a variety of journals from UK, US, German and so on. The University provides free internet service to all the students.

STUDENTS COUNCIL AT VOLSMU
Students Council is the department run by the students in association with the management. The aim of the student council is the realization of the student's potential for learning, science, sports, recreational activities of the students and solution for social and domestic issues. It conducts its work on balanced system of relations of the students council with the administration.
RESEARCH DIVISION
The university has dedicated Research Division that brings into enforcement the research topics coordinated by Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.
The research division prepares draft plans and reports on research work, develop proposals for improving the scientific, Health Care and Educational activities at the University.

DEPARTMENT FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
The University has a special Department for International students which is in charge of the welfare of the international students, their academics and everyday activities. The department assigns teachers as curators for different groups of students and they are responsible for helping the students with the Russian culture and lifestyle and solving any problems that may arise. The Dean's office regularly visit the students during their classes and keep a track of their academic record. The university regularly sends information to the parents regarding their children's academic progress and other activities.
TEvery semester the university sets aside a day for academically excellent students and such students receive a certificate of excellence from the Dean for International students. The University also organizes various conferences and seminars throughout the year and interested students may use such opportunities to widen their knowledge.
PROGRAM WITH FOREIGN UNIVERSITIES
This university built up relationships with the number of foreign universities which includes – the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (USA), Albert Ludwigs Universities (Freiburg, Germany), Martin-Luther Halle-Wittenberg Universities (Germany), Belgian, French, Chinese universities, etc. University is collaborating with World Federation for Medical Education, with the WHO, with UNESCO, with the British Council, with the United States Agency for International Development, with the American International Health Alliance, and participating in a wide range of joint international research projects.
This collaboration has been fostering the advance of medical science in fields such as family medicine, poison control, family planning and reproductive health, arterial hypertension, epidemiology, tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment, pharmacology, pharmacy, etc. One of the latest developments is the newly set up Russian-American Family Practice Clinic which is a unique clinic of its type in the whole of the south of Russia.
SPORTS, SOCIAL AND CULTURAL LIFE
The university has a department for physical training. It includes a gym, sports ground and an indoor mini stadium. It also rents a swimming pool and a big stadium. During the first two years of study it is compulsory for students to attend physical training after which they can opt for training in different sports. Every year the department conducts competitions for different sports.
The many numerous theatres, cinemas, shopping malls, concert halls and museums located in the city make it possible for the international students to learn and enjoy the Russian culture. Every year the international students conduct their national cultural programs and functions such as diwali, Holi etc. along with student's theatre extravaganza.
The city in addition has many churches, mosques, Synagogue and the temple of Lord Krishna which gives an opportunity for the students to celebrate their tradition.
