Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University is one of the oldest medical higher school in Russia that is well known throughout the world. In 2021, the University celebrated its 115th anniversary.
The University is the first organization in Russia that provided women with the opportunity to get higher medical education. The University is the first in the world to establish a Faculty of Pediatrics that served as a model for creating such departments at other universities around the world. The School of Biomedicine, opened at our University in 1963, was also one of the first in the world.
Active participation in medical activities and the development of health care, constant support for scientific research and the introduction of innovations allow us to maintain a leading position in Russian medical education.
Today the University is a complex of educational, scientific and medical divisions and centers, offering educational programs of all levels in clinical medicine, biomedicine, psychology, social work and pharmacy.
Over 2,000 professors are contributing in 115 departments offering seminars, lectures, and practical laboratory sessions in the sciences in over 250 courses. This University maintains a great network with the biggest Moscow State clinical hospitals which serves very many people with various pathologies. The students are provided with the great experiences and unique opportunity to get hands on how real patients are diagnosed, treated, operated and how they recover. Also, they are given a chance to assist senior doctors at the clinics so that they can analyze how to treat real patient.
The University aims at training highly-qualified doctors and specialist whose duty is to protect people’s health. The University is known to have 3 multi-profile medical research centers, 8 academic departments, and 4 research institutes. It has roots in leading urban hospitals, dispensaries and maternity homes. The hospitals are well-equipped with modern medical equipment. Would-be doctors get hands-on clinical experience at these medical centers under the guidance of experienced professionals.

Student life
In Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, there is an amazing student life. There are more than 100 competitions for students in the University. The students have become champions of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Development of Russia and won many medals. There are various options for the students to explore. These are beach, gym, sport grounds for playing football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, etc. Many students are volunteering in blood donations. There volunteering activities include charity events, support an orphanage, activities for ill children, etc.
